EVANESECENCE/THE BEAUTIFUL MONUMENT ADELAIDE ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE, SA AUGUST 28, 2023
Before this show I hadn’t heard of The Beautiful Monument and quite frankly didn’t know what to expect but by the end of their set you could tell they were a perfect match with Evanescence. Right from ‘Invisible’ with pounding drums and bullet firing guitar work right through to ‘Misery’ with its hypnotic vocals from Lizo Blanco who had so much emotion in her voice paired with the dynamic sound of the band, they had that had the crowd tapping their feet and nodding their heads.
Evanescence is band that you can’t escape from, Amy Lee’s rippling vocals is embedded in everyone’s head so when I finally got to see the band for the first time (unlike others) it was an honour. But was it worth it, shit yeah !!!!!
Adelaide’s set list and even show was different to the rest of the country, some of this was due to venue size and others to the changes the band made during their tour. But that didn’t matter because we got one spectacular and memorable show ever seen. This was called the 20th Anniversary tour of Fallen but read more like a greatest Hits tour with songs like ‘What You Want’, ‘Lithium’ and ‘Call Me When You’re Sober’. But it was songs like ‘Going Under’, the ever beautiful ‘My Immortal’ and finishing the night off with the ballistic ‘Bring Me To Life’ that really shone brightly and loudly.
Don’t get me wrong this was one hell of a show, and one mighty light and laser show to go with it, watching Amy command that stage having everyone captured by her every word was unbelievable. Bassist Tim McCord has now moved to lead guitar and boy did he know how to pound that beast, Amy was also very proud to announce that she now had an Aussie bassist in Emma Anzai (Sick Puppies) and of course Will Hunt was ferocious on drums reminding me of Animal from The Muppets. This was Epic, it was Gigantic and this show will never be forgotten.
