ASLOKE
INTERVIEW
Tell us about yourself for those that don’t know you?
Well I’m Asloke, I’m 26 years old, I’m a Suicidegirl hopeful and also what some might call a “spicy accountant”. I currently live in Melbourne, only just made the move here from Gold Coast six months ago. I am a country girl though, I’m originally from Central NSW from a small outback town where I grew up most of my life. I’ve definitely never fit the stereotypical country look though. I love metal music, I grew up on it and one of my biggest joys in life is seeing live music. In a few weeks I’m going to my nineth festival/show since November last year. My most recent I attended was Knotfest! You’ll always find me in the pit, seeing my favourite bands live really feeds my soul.
When did you get your first tattoo, please describe it and have you added anything to it?
My first tattoo is on the back of my neck, it’s the deathly hallows sign from Harry Potter. It was only small when I first got it but it has been added to, some flowery kind of design that covers the back of my neck. I was straight into the tattoo shop when I was 18! I have always wanted tattoos since a young age.
Which is your favourite tattoo that you have had done, please describe it and what sort of meaning it has for you?
That is a really hard choice, I have two favourites, both done by the same artist. They are both their own design and just completely unique, it’s my chest/neck piece that took three full day sessions and the snake that extends from my upper back down to the back of my calf that also took three full day sessions. I love my snake, it’s one of a kind, it’s actually over 1 metre long! Then my chest piece which is Medusa, well historically Medusa has a lot of meaning. For me personally it’s a symbol of strength and protection from evil, with the placement it’s like she’s guarding my heart from those with bad intentions. To me it’s a visual representation of strength and that I’m not going to be dragged down to the depths I once was ever again. Don’t look her in the eyes or you’ll turn to stone.
What is the most painful tattoo you have had done, please describe the tattoo and its meaning. How many sessions did it take to complete?
I have a pentagram on my palm, definitely the most painful, which I know sounds funny because I have had massive sessions in some sensitive spots. But this one just sucked the whole time, It’s done in a scratchy kind of style and thick lines. I’ve had it for two years now and it still looks fresh. Done in just the one session on my 24th birthday actually. But I love it and I will be getting my other palm done eventually.
Your next tattoo, what have you decided on and where on your body is it going plus what type of meaning does it have for you?
The only thing I have in the works is getting my left leg finished. I had a session done on it nearly two months ago. I’m not even the one planning it, I’ve given my artist free reign and I’m keen to see what he comes up with next. It’s the same artist who did my snake and chest that is doing my leg, turning it into a leg sleeve. I don’t know if I can but I’ll shamelessly promote him here. The artist is Corey Sinclair who goes by Cotteez and is currently tattooing out of Loco Tattoo on the Gold Coast. He’s honestly amazing and I comfortably give him creative freedom and he’s never let me down. I want to be fully tattooed one day, that’s the plan. Probably not my face or boobs, but we will see!
