AMITY ROSE

INTERVIEW

Tell us a bit about yourself for those that doesn’t know you?

My name is Amity Rose I’m 27 years old and I’m based in Melbourne. I’m addicted to tattoos and have been getting tattooed since I was 19 years old and I’m two sessions away from completing my arm sleeve. I also work in the sex industry in multiple aspects and I started off doing lingerie modelling and it’s escalated from there.

When did you get your first tattoo, describe it and have you added anything to the tattoo?

For my first tattoo session I got two tattoos done because I thought why not. I got my collarbone done with a Tibetan mantra, om mani padme hum and I was really nervous because apparently the collarbone is one of the most painful places to get tattooed but it was done in less than 20 minutes. Then we did my wrist which is an awareness ribbon with half a butterfly attached to it that represents (RP) Retinitis Pigmentosa which is a genetic eye condition. This can make your eyesight deteriorate and can lead to full blindness and there is no treatment or cure so that is something that is very important to me. It’s a condition that is close to me and my family, personally and not many people are aware of it. I wanted to get the awareness ribbon tattooed so when people ask, I can talk about it and funnily enough the Awareness month for it is February which is a coincidence.

Let us look at your tattoos in more detail and the first design that stands out for me is the Buddha on your left arm that when you look at it from a distance looks more like a Sun God. Care to explain its meaning to you?

The Tibetan style Buddha tattoo on my left shoulder is actually the longest tattoo session I’ve ever had in one sitting and that was 10 hours because majority of it is Dot work with shading and the design was done by my tattoo artist Jake Sumo because I’m pretty spiritual and it’s a Tibetan Buddha I should say which ties in with my collarbone and sternum tattoo. We designed it to have a Buddha, two lotus on either side of the Buddha and then above it is a mandala, which kind of looks like a sun setting behind it which is why it looks like a sun setting design.

Further down your arm is a bunch of different shapes stuck together. Do they represent anything personal to you or did you just like the design?

It joins in with the Buddha is a mandala behind it and I have the seven chakras tattooed around my arm and behind each chakra is a mandala. So, my sleeve is in the process to have a mandala under each chakra so the chakra looks like it is 3D sitting above the mandalas once its all finished. We picked mandalas because its spiritual each one is a different design and as to the chakras, I lean more to the third eye. Three chakras that I’m very connected to are: Third Eye Chakra (Ajna), Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana), and Root Chakra (Muladhara). So, I lean towards those three because I’m really open minded and see outside of the box. This also led me to do a course in reiki and tantra. I now have my Masters 1 & 2 in Reiki and have done workshops and have been taught some tantra stuff and have been looking into doing a tantra course to be able to teach it.

On your lower leg is the moon cuddling the sun, cute design. Is this in reference to anything?

So that was my fourth tattoo and actually a Christmas present from my mum to get the tattoo done and the tattoo is actually a picture of necklace I have and we photocopied it and did the design on my leg. The necklace breaks up, the sun and the moon and I have the sun and my godfather has the moon. He lives overseas and I haven’t seen him for many years, I wear it occasionally and that was a gift he gave me at my birth.

I love the tiger design on your left hip who is coming out of the jungle. It is positioned well on your body too, did you just like this design?

That was my first big tattoo and I got that after the sun and the moon tattoo and I really wanted a tiger on my hip/thigh area as the tiger represents courage and strength and at the point in my life, I had gone through a lot so I wanted to represent that. I asked my tattooist to come up with a design with a tiger and he showed me a tiger walking through the jungle and like a waterfall behind it and I’m like I’m sold and it fitted perfectly and it’s grown with my body shape in a nice position.

Please explain the script above your breasts and its meaning plus the language it’s in?

It’s a Tibetan mantra om mani padme hum. The literal meaning in English has been expressed as

“praise to the jewel in the lotus”, or as a declarative aspiration, possibly meaning “I in the jewel-lotus”. Within the lotus for inner strength and inner beauty and translates to Om Mani Padme Hum.

Since you are a very spiritual person and most of your tattoos are themed around this, are there any tattoos that aren’t aligned to that area?

There are actually two designs, one of them is that I have a white tattoo behind my left ear, you can’t really see it there and it looks like a scar but it is a Viking Rune.

What’s your greatest achievement and how has it shaped you?

Probably my first year getting into lingerie modelling and I was actually in three different magazines. I had never expected to be in a magazine ever so that was quite a big shock and I was quite proud of myself. Just being able to work with a lot of different people but this year I’m hoping to work with some brands and do some collaborative shoots.
